Crop tops, oh how you confuse me so.
I have never been the girl to wear revealing tops but I find myself being drawn to crop tops lately.  For me to make this style more "wearable" I had to pair it with high-waisted jeans, so not too much skin would show.  I love how this top is flowy and perfect for warmer weather to come.  Possibly I like this crop top/high-waisted jean combo because you can't really tell it's a crop top, but all I know is that this is a look I will be sporting this summer.

I've been loving monochromatic looks and have done more neutral ones here and here, but I decided to step out of my safe color zone and be little bit more bold with this outfit.
The almost neon lace pink top matches almost exactly the color at the hem of the skirt so it made the two shades work well together.  I even matched my lipstick!
I know guys, I'm getting a little cray cray with the pink here but I'm kind of digging it.
What do you think of the bold monochrome look?

I wear this outfit many times, or variations like it, a TON.
It is so easy to just grab a flow-y dress from your closet, a structured jacket, and a pair of patterned booties and run out the door looking more put together and cute than the actual 2 minutes it took to pick out the outfit.

Every year this day almost sneaks up on me.

To most, April 16th is not a very important day, but for anyone that belongs to the Hokie nation, it is a day forever burned in your mind.

It really is crazy to think that it was  at almost this exact time 6 years ago today that I woke up in my dorm room, preparing for any other day, when the unthinkable began happening right outside my window.

Hearing my whole life about different shootings and other terrible things happening around the world, I felt sad and empathy for those affected, but then it was out of sight and then out of mind.  Life went on.

But when these types of horrific events happen right next to you and you are directly affected by them, it is a bit harder to just move on.  That event is with you forever.  And ever since my experience, my compassion for anyone affected by these numerous terrible events is indescribable.  My heart breaks all over again and I feel the same loss and hurt and anger I felt so many years ago.  That event is with me forever and every single one after April 16th, 2007 is with me too.

Ever since that day my whole perspective on life has changed.  I try to never take things for granted and to be very thankful for everything and everyone around me, because it all is so precious.  And while I love clothes and fashion I do know that end of the day, there are some things far more important.

My thoughts and prayers are with Boston and I will neVer forgeT

from work to play (part 2)

double button ups| j.crew factory (gingham plaid) denim vest| american eagle (sold out online. similar)skirt|h&m (similarbag|marc by marc jacobs(similarheels| zigi soho(old) sunglasses|karen walker  belt|gap

After being at work all day, I rarely want to wear the same outfit when I go to meet friends out after work especially with the warmer weather.   The key is to choose versatile items that you can style multiple ways.  So from this work outfit to this casual outfit I only changed/added 3 pieces to get a more casual look:
bottom| shoes| bag

When going from work-to-play it is really important to pick a piece that you can dress up and down easily (I choose my tops).  By keeping all of my accessories the same(except for my bag) it really reduces the extra things you have to carry around with you.  Because I had a more preppy appearance for my tops and necklaces I wanted to tone that down so I added the vest.  A summer shoe will just add to the fun of the outfit.

I hope this shows you how easy it is to change the vibe of your outfit from office ready to happy hour ready.

What I Want : Travel Bag

Wednesday Wishlist : Travel Bag

So I wanted to start a "What I Want" (on Wednesday's) series where I post things that I am currently coveting and really have been eyeing to make mine.
So for my first post I am featuring the Weekender Bag from Kate Spade SATURDAY.

I am gone almost every weekend and my Nicole Miller travel bag has seen better days years (it is over 10 years old).  I desperately need to replace it and have been researching different brands and styles and the weekender is the first to really catch my eye.  All of the fun prints and the pockets to really organize things is really appealing to me.
They even offer it in a smaller version with a few more patterns AND you can create a customized one.
So what's holding me back?? The price (dun dun dun).
The large bags clock in at $180 and the smaller ones at $160 (customized $280-$290) and I just don't know if I can really spend that much on a cloth bag!

How do you feel about this weekender bag?
Do you have any other travel bag you would recommend?

from work to play (part 1)

button downs| j.crew factory (gingham plaidpants| j.crew minnie flats|madewell (old similarbag|micheal kors ring|diy

So this week I am going to show you how I bring an outfit from work to play.  I commute and also live a little distance from friends and after work activities, so I often find myself trying to make tweaks to my work wear that will work in a more fun casual setting.
Here I doubled up my collared shirts with 2 different patterns, paired it with my favorite flats (if I end up staying out all night I want to make sure I can stand in my heels the whole time without complaining!) and my trusty J.Crew minnie pants and voila! I am 9 to 5 ready.

Stay tuned on Thursday to see how I styled my 'play' outfit!

frugal friday : cherry blossoms

frugal friday : cherry blossoms

frugal friday : cherry blossoms by ohvadarling featuring a mini satchel

The DC area has been having the wackiest weather.  From 60's in early March to snow forecasts for the last few weeks.  Crazy!  But in DC the official ringing in of the nice weather are the Cherry Blossoms actually blooming.  I haven't been to see the beautiful trees in many many years, but with the first 70's forecast on Sunday I think I am going to venture into the city with my family to take in the beauty and history.

Above is an example of what I will most likely be wearing to walk around and see the sights.

dress| old navy (20% off this weekend!)
shoes| nordstrom (love the perforated look & you need comfy flats for walking)
cardigan| ruche (big and comfy = me)
lipstick| nars (the NEW satin lip pencil looks awesome)
bag| coach (love the shape and color of this leather bag!)

(pictures from The Enchanted Home)

Who's going to be checking out the cherry blossoms this weekend?

When I don't know what to wear I literally just grab whatever I can get my hands on.
Last weekend that consisted of my boyfriend's dress shirt.
I love how big and roomy the shirt is on me but also how well it gives me a masculine edge while not overdoing it.
The next time I snag one of his shirt I will add a more fun shoe to brighten up the outfit.
Now if any of his dress shirts go missing he will know I am the culprit.

in-vested.

denim vest | american eagle(similarmaxi skirt & shoes |zara(similar skirt; similar shoes) hat | lola hats via off saks (similar herebag | marc by marc jacobs (similar)

As I stated in my Frugal Friday post here, a denim vest was a must have for spring.  Because I didn't have one yet I had to go buy one just to prove to you all that I really like the stuff I suggest.  I snagged this one at American Eagle (all sold out online).  I love the slight fading of the denim and how the vest angles in the front.  It really adds such a great casual touch.  I will try not to post too many outfits in it, but I am not promising anything.

Also, lets talk about this awesome hat.  I came across it at the Off Saks I work near and had to buy it once I tried it on.  The hat was originally $150 but I snagged it for $18 #winning.  Though I don't know if I will get many more wears out of it this spring, I know this will be my go to hat in chillier weather.
